Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix tickets sold out

Dubai Business News — Organisers of the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix had been sold out at 6pm on Thursday night.

The announcement marks a sell-out event for the third consecutive year, since the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix debuted on the Formula 1 Championship calendar in 2009.

“We take a genuine sense of pride in the fact that 50,000 fans will pack out our grandstands again this year,” said Richard Cregan, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit. “We believe it is a reflection of the very special event that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit has become.”

“This year is set to be another fantastic event, and we want to thank all of the fans for their continued support.”

In addition to the Formula 1 racing over the three-day event, motorsports fans will see three support races including the 2011 GP2 Final, the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.

Between the races, the Oasis Areas will provide an array of entertainment, from games and karting for the children, to pampering for the ladies.

This year, ticket holders will also have the exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets to the 2012 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, at this year’s prices; a first for the circuit.

“We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our F1 fans; there are many people who are attending the race for the third year in a row and we feel that this is a great way to give back to them,” added Cregan.

On-track action commences on Friday and gates will be open from 9am.

People without tickets will be able take advantage of the free activities and live broadcast of the race on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

Fans poured into Yas Marina Circuit on Thursday to get a behind-the-scenes look at the F1 team’s busily preparing their cars for this weekend’s racing.

Fans were also given the opportunity to meet seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

The Thursday of a race weekend is typically focused on allowing fans an up-close look at Pit Lane, to greet their driver heroes, and take advantage of the array of entertainment on offer in the Oasis areas.

Long-time Formula 1 fan Henry Olejnik (56), travelled from Scotland to Abu Dhabi to experience the race at Yas Marina Circuit for the first time. Hesaid: “Today was truly the stuff of dreams, to be up close and personal to the magnificent F1 cars and teams in this fabulous Yas Marina setting, simply takes my breath away. Getting to meet Alonso and Schumacher was a real highlight for me; it’s so nice to find them approachable and appreciative of their fans. It is a wonderful memory for me to take back to Scotland.”

Australian F1 fanatic, Kylie Brownlee (30) said about her experience: “I love the Pit Lane Walk; it’s your first chance to feel the passion and taste the tension of the coming weekend of sensory overload.”
