Dubai Business News — Saint Petersburg: Emirates has launched its first flight to Bolkov airport in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg. The K137 landed with a delegation representing Emirates — along with other officials representing UAE government departments and tourism companies in Dubai.
Terry Antouri, vice-president of Global Sales at Emirates, said that the airline will not face any problems regarding future financing of aircraft despite the economic challenges. In a press statement at Bolkov airport in conjunction with the celebrations, Antouri said that Emirates treads a policy of diverse financing, which includes traditional trade financing, Islamic financing, stocks, and export credit programmes.
Antouri also added that the new air route to Russia's northern capital is an important addition to the trade and tourism line between Dubai, Saint Petersburg and the areas surrounding it, as it is considered a highly active trading and tourism location which attracts millions of tourists every year.
Opportunities
The new service, he added shall open new horizons for Russian companies to reach new markets from the UAE, which is considered the region's commercial gateway for more than 1.5 billion consumers.
Antouri also pointed out that St Petersburg has become part of Emirates' growing network of 115 destinations, and the second destination after Moscow in Russia. He added that he expects an increase in trade activity between the UAE and Russia, which will grow through the volume of commercial trade, which reached to $1 billion (Dh3.67 billion) last year.
Towards September 2013, Emirates will operate 44 A380 airplanes, along its current fleet of airplanes, which will boost its seat capacity across the network.
Emirates conducts two flights daily to Moscow and one daily flight to Saint Petersburg.
