Dubai Business News — The biggest hard rock band of all time drowned thousands of fans from all over the Middle East for their one night only concert in the UAE Capital.ABU DHABI - “I was working on a night shift and couldn’t come last night. How was it?” “You missed the concert? You missed half your life!”
This was the kind of conversation being played across YouTube and Facebook the morning after Metallica’s concert in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Arena on Tuesday night.
The biggest hard rock band of all time drowned thousands of fans from all over the Middle East for their one night only concert in the UAE Capital.
“When I heard about Metallica playing in Abu Dhabi, I planned a whole week off and I came to stay with my cousin, who works here, specially to see them,” said Sami Mustafa, a 25-year-old from Cairo who flew here to see the band.
As they began arriving at Yas Arena well before the concert, fans were already chanting some of Metallica’s best known tunes, ‘And Nothing Else Matters...’ or ‘The Memory Remains’.The hard rock legends — James Hetfield (vocals, guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Kirk Hammet (guitar, background vocals) and Robert Trujillo (bass, background vocals) — who are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year as a band, opened the show with some of their most powerful hits, and for over two hours, a capacity crowd was treated to one of the biggest rock concerts the region has ever seen.
‘Enter Sandman’, ‘Creeping Death’, ‘Nothing Else Matters’, ‘Sanitarium’ and ‘Seek and Destroy’ brought tears of joy on the faces of diehard rock fans screaming for their heroes, as guitars stroke the notes of each new song.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life. I’ve got nothing else to say,” was ecstatic Tarek Al Alawi, who also flew in from Egypt to see his icons perform, could barely say.
“I never thought we’d see Metallica in the UAE. The energy is incredible. This is the biggest Tuesday night I’ve ever had. What a show!” said Amanda Peterson from Dubai.
“What an amazing first show here in Abu Dhabi! Over 25,000 in the crowd tonight,” declared Metallica on its website. The next two gigs of Metallica are going to be in India, followed by San Francisco next year. For those who missed the Tuesday night concert, though, or for those who want to re-live it, the audio of Metallica’s performance in this show may be downloaded from www.livemetallica.com.
Flash Entertainment, which brought the band here, is now preparing for the next instalment of Yas Island Show Weekend: the biggest electronic festival in the Middle East, with Creamfields returning to Yas Arena for two days of the world’s biggest DJs and live acts on December 8 and 9.
Headlining the third instalment of the annual electronic dance fiesta will be Tiesto, deadmau5, Magnetic Man, Ferry Corsten, Katy B, Laidback Luke, Tinie Tempa, and a host of special guests.
