Dubai Business News — Madinat Jumeirah, part of Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hospitality company and member of Dubai Holding, was proud to host the 7th Hotelier Middle East awards ceremony last night in the Al Johara Ballroom. The event was attended by over 600 guests representing hotel companies from Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Yemen and of course, the UAE. The Hotelier Middle East Awards celebrates excellence in all areas of the hotel industry, including “the back of house”, “the front line”, “culinary stars”, “general managers” and “Hotelier’s Unsung Hero”.
The winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges from the industry including the Managing Director of the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, Ron Hilvert. This year, Jumeirah Group was shortlisted for nine out of the 19 award categories, winning four and being Highly Commended for two.
Robert Kunkler (Madinat Jumeirah) was named ‘General Manager of the Year’ while Mohammed Kapital (Jumeirah Group) was recognised as ‘Procurement Person of the Year’ and Ayeda Al Hamoor (Jumeirah Zabeel Saray) won the ‘HR Person of the Year’ award. A special mention also goes to Sean Harrison and Maurice Fitzgerald who were Highly Commended for their outstanding efforts in their respective award categories.
The evening reached a culminating point when the entire team of Jumeirah Beach Hotel was recognised for their outstanding dedication and hard-work with the impressive title of ‘Hotel Team of the Year’.
Other Jumeirah colleagues recognised by Hotelier Middle-East were outlet manager Sophie Girard (Jumeirah Emirates Towers), sommelier Haiyang Lu (Madinat Jumeirah) and concierge Sheldon Chavan (Jumeirah Zabeel Saray) who were shortlisted among hundreds of applications.
