Dubai Business News — Al Wasl are in search of their first away win of the new league season against last year's runners-up Bani Yas tonight at 8pm in the capital, after two earlier defeats away from Zabeel Stadium in the Cup.
Having won four and lost three from seven matches (two friendlies, four cup and one league) under coach Diego Maradona so far, the club has yet to break an early away curse, losing their only two competitive fixtures outside fortress Zabeel 4-3 to Al Jazira and 5-0 to Dubai.
Maradona said at his weekly pre-match conference on Thursday: "It would be an important win if we achieve victory away from home. But it requires as much concentration as possible, especially in defence. The focus is not to concede, as that is where our problems start.
"Whoever controls the midfield will win the match — all our cards are on the table, We've prepared well and we are ready to give it our best — whoever keeps possession, makes the ball work more with the correct movement and patience, looking around, holding the ball, always giving their best, will win."
Maradona added: "I feel confident to have all my players available, especially in attack [after the arrival of Richard Porta and Abdullah Abdul Rahman]. We have a good choice in attack, but at the same time we have to be careful to give our best because one [league] win [3-0 against Sharjah last week] is not enough. This is just the beginning, there is a long way to go. It's a long league and the teams are equal, it's going to be a tough competition."
Speaking of a perceived over-dependence on playmaker Mariano Donda, Maradona said: "He's doing what's asked of him — but there are others of equal importance to my formation"
