Dubai Business News — The hosts came from behind to trounce Bahraini outfit Al Rifaa 6-1 in the first game of the Al Ain Friendly Football Tournament, which kicked off on Saturday at Khalifa Stadium.
Al Ain took command of the match in the last 30 minutes following the dismissal of Al Rifaa captain Abu Bakr Mohammad for a professional foul on Abdul Aziz Fayez when he was through on goal.
Al Ain unveiled a new club logo and some of the players who came in over the summer, including Yasir Al Qah'tani, Ignacio Scocco, Mirel Radoi, Hilal Saeed, Mohammad Malulla and Mohammad Salem.
The new players won the admiration of the club's fans, especially Al Qah'tani, Malulla and Saeed, who each scored a goal in the match.
Fine goal
It was Al Rifaa who took the lead against the run of play on 17 minutes when Hassan Eisa went past a defender and the goalkeeper to score a fine goal. Eisa had missed a sitter only a minute earlier from a defensive mistake, only for Waleed Salim, the home keeper, to make a brilliant save.
Malulla was awarded a penalty in the 30th minute by referee Ali Hamad when he was brought down inside the box. Al Qah'tani converted before Malulla then himself added the second seven minutes later, pouncing on the rebound when Scocco's curling shot hit the bar.
Any means necessary
Al Ain continued to press for more goals after half time as Al Rifaa's defenders resorted to any means necessary to keep the home strikers at bay.
When Bakr was sent off the resistance of the visitors broke with Haddaf Abdullah, Hilal, Rami Yaslam and Salem Abdullah each scoring a goal. The match witnessed the return of injured players Waleed and Salem to the team after a long absence. Hilal Saeed also played his first game after returning from three seasons with Al Jazira.
