Brazilian named Qatar Olympic soccer coach

Dubai Business News — Qatar has named Brazilian Paulo Autuori as the new coach of the Gulf nation's Olympic soccer team.

The statement Monday by the Qatar Football Association is the latest bid by Qatar to boost its world soccer credentials after winning the rights to host the 2022 World Cup. Qatar also plans to bid for the 2020 Olympics.

The first test for the 55-year-old Autuori will be next month in Asian qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympics. Qatar's group includes Asian soccer power South Korea and regional rivals Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Autuori has led Qatar's Al Rayyan club since 2009.
